Miguel Andujar began the season in Triple-A but after an injury to Yankees third baseman Brandon Drury, the 23-year-old rookie arrived in the Bronx in a big way.
Through his first 60 games in 2018, the Dominican was pacing all American League rookies in runs scored, hits and doubles. To put up those types of numbers all Andujar needed was a chance to prove himself, which he’s done time and time again.
Andujar has definitely taken advantage of his opportunity to shine in the majors and as a result, he’s avoided growing complacent and keeps competing not only with the other players in the roster but with himself.
Andujar is a player that although he already owns an impressive swing he keeps trying to get better every single day.
Thanks to a very good set of hands Andujar is a player that usually gets the barrel of the bat through the zone with big-time speed. His dynamic swing generates a lot of power as he makes good use of his quick hands and quick back to generate a lot of damage against opposing pitchers.
That damage has been evident so far in the majors as he’s recorded 33 extra-base hits through his first 60 games, which ranks him 13th in the A.L.
His production comes from a mature approach at the plate that spawns from the development he’s experienced as he learns the strike zone.
As he’s grown more confident he’s learned to look for pitches that he can drive as he’s a quick study at the plate and likes to constantly find new ways to outsmart the opposition.
With Andujar already having such a good campaign for the Bronx Bombers it’s hard to envision him getting better, but that most likely to be the case. His ability to make quick adjustments at the plate and not being afraid to implement them gives him an advantage that could allow him to continue to improve his game and stay consistent for a long stretch.
