NFL 2019THREE BIG SURPRISES IN NFL WEEK FOUR

There is only one place to start.  Jameis Winston!  The one that no one saw coming was the former Florida State quarterback putting up 385 passing yards and 4 touchdowns…on the road against a highly regarded Los Angeles Rams team as 9 point underdogs, and beating the previously undefeated Rams at home.

It just could be that there is some ‘mojo’ working between new head coach Bruce Arians and the hitherto fore under achieving quarterback from Bessemer, Alabama who has been good, but not great, ever since taking over the reins at quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers five years ago.

A grand total of 95 points were scored in that game in Los Angeles.  Bettors who took the over cleared their wager by 46.5 points!  The Bucs took home a much needed victory to bring the team back to .500 at 2-2 while Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff put up an amazing 517 yards throwing 68 passes in the losing effort at the LA Coliseum.  It was the Rams first loss of the year.

It was the Saints defense which came up surprisingly big against a highly rated Dallas Cowboys team featureing quarterback Dak Prescott, the fearsome Ezekiel Elliot and the illusive Amari Cooper in the Super Dome in New Orleans on Sunday Night Football.

The Saints went in as 2.5 point underdogs and ended up winning the contest by only 2 points after holding the mighty Cowboy offense to only 223 yards passing and no passing touchdowns.  Ezekiel Elliot did bull his was across the goal line for one TD, but was limited to just 35 yards rushing all night by the stubborn New Orleans defense.

Bettors who took the under 47 points were laughing all the way to the cash out window as both teams together managed to only put up 12 points all evening in one of the best defensive football games we have seen in a while.

Teddy Bridgewater, who is stepping in for Drew Brees at quarterback, was careful and effective throughout the game passing for 193 yards and completing 23 of 31 passes to 8 different receivers with WR Michael Thomas making 9 grabs for 95 yards.  The Saints won without scoring a touchdown as young place kicker Will Lutz was responsible for all 12 points on 4 successful field goals.

Then there are the Cleveland Browns.  A lot of fans, both in and out of Ohio, had started to give up a little on the Browns this year and their young boisterous quarterback Baker Mayfield. After going 3 and 1 in the preseason the Browns were hit and miss when the regular season got started losing to lowly Tennessee and allowing them to put up 43 points in the first game.  Then they beat the Jets on the road but lost to the Rams when LA came to Cleveland.

However, the fan base is revitalized now after the Browns went out to Baltimore to take on the Ravens as 7 point dogs and came away with an outright win by a final score of 40-25 with Mayfield passing for 342 yards while former Georgia Bulldog running back Nick Chubb proved to be the difference maker rushing for an impressive 165 yards on 20 carries and scoring 3 rushing touchdowns in the Cleveland victory.

The Browns and the over 47 was the winning wager of the day with underdog Cleveland taking home the victory and both teams together putting up a grand total 65 points.
