Wikipedia defines the word specious as something ‘apparently good or right though lacking real merit’ or ‘superficially pleasing or plausible’. If that sounds at all like the price per head service that you have been considering, look around some more. There are some good ones out there that are actually capable of delivering what they promise.
The price per head industry got started back in the late 1990’s when a large gulf opened between local bookmakers and the new offshore sports books. Bettors liked working with their trusted local guy as they had done for years. But the local guy just could not offer the variety of action that the offshore boys could put up. Plus the local guy had to depend on other people’s lines and still had to keep up with everything himself.
So along comes the first price per head companies which could set a local bookmaker up so that he could then offer anything that the big offshore books did. Not only that but, by working with a good PPH Service, the bookie could forget about carrying around that incriminating ‘little black book’ that has landed more than one local guy in trouble.
That’s correct, all record keeping is done for you by the price per head service. All that remains for the local bookmaker are his collections and payouts. Think about that for a minute. Wouldn’t that be nice? If you have not already made the switch to a good PPH service company, consider doing so as soon as possible.
But beware, all PPH companies are not created equally. When looking about for a good service remember that word ‘specious’, because there are some companies out there which will promise you the world knowing full well that, then push comes to shove, they will not be able to fulfill that promise because they simply have not invested in the necessary infrastructure to get the job done properly.
In truth, one of the fastest ways to ruin a good bookie business is to affiliate yourself with one of these second rate PPH companies. Your players are more sophisticated than ever before these days and they are expecting nothing less than the best service available. Offer that to them and they will be wagering with you for years to come. Put up a cheap offering and you best players will start drifting away.
Check it out carefully and avoid, at all costs, anything that sounds in the least ‘specious’.
