The Best Shooter In Basketball

by admin on Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

Stephen CurryThe debate seems to be over. Even the experienced commentators, most of whom are former NBA stars, are now calling Stephen Curry “the best shooter in the NBA” without any further qualifications, without even mentioning anyone else and these guys have watched a lot of basketball. Is he really that good?

Many of us have been watching Stephen Curry play since he led Davidson to the Final Four back in 2009. Even then, as a sophomore, the kid was something else.

Curry is one of those rare athletes that is actually fun to watch perform and he obviously is having a good time when he is on a roll.

In a heartbreaking loss to the Spurs in the first game of the second round of the NBA playoffs, Curry scored an amazing 44 points and had 11 assists. He passed the ball off to team mates several times when he clearly could have made the shot himself. Stephen Curry is the very soul and the inspiration of the Golden State Warriors.

Hardly imposing to look at, Curry has been simply amazing this past season. Stephan comes from solid NBA stock from his father, former All-Star Dell Curry so, at least some of his talent and prowess with a basketball just comes naturally like, it’s in his blood.

How Curry was left off the NBA All-Star team is a question that many have asked. His numbers has been on the rise ever since he was drafted by the Warriors back in 2009 and this past season has been his best to date and he is not through yet.

This year he averaged 22.9 points per game with 6.9 assists. On top of that, Curry set a new NBA season record for three-point shots made with 272. He shot an impressive 45% from outside the circle.

What Curry displays each game is his firm grip on proper fundamentals. It is not just about getting the ball into the basket. His altogether solid mechanics helps him to simplify his shot and get it off quickly.

Way back during the Final Four games in 2009 when Stephen Curry first came to the attention of basketball fans across the country, commentators were commenting on his “High Basketball IQ.” He has the knack of playing with poise while playing against different defensive looks and rotating defenders.

Few young players in the NBA today understand the game of basketball and how it is played as well as young Stephen Curry.
