Drew Brees Donates $1,000,000 To Hurricane Relief

by admin on Saturday, November 24th, 2012

Drew BreesNew Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is donating $1 million to Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.  Brees told CBS’ “Person to Person” in an interview to air Friday that the donation will come through the Dream Foundation he runs with his wife, Brittany. He did not say who will be receiving the donation.

Brees says he and his wife want to give back what’s been given to them. They say their foundation will also be donating $2 million to various New Orleans organizations over the next several months.

CBS will profile Drew Brees and his family on “Person to Person,” a prime time special airing at 9 p.m. CST on November  23.  The Super Bowl winning quarterback of the New Orleans Saints and his wife Brittany will take viewers inside their New Orleans home. Drew and Brittany will also introduce their three sons – Baylen, Bowen and Callen – all under the age of 4. Brees agreed that his family dwarfs football in their house. “There’s nothing like being a father. It’s the greatest thing in the world…it puts everything in perspective.” “Person to Person” was originally broadcast in 1953 with Edward R. Murrow as the host. The ground breaking series gave viewers a peek into the home lives of such icons as John and Jacqueline Kennedy, Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart.

Brees told Rose and Logan he had always wanted to be a professional baseball player. His hero is Boston Red Sox legend Ted Williams. Over time Brees has acquired some of the Williams’ personal items such as his flight logs from World War II. Brees says he respects Williams’ “mindset in regards to serving his country.” “I’m truly a fan,” Brees adds. “It’s why I wear the number 9.”

When asked about the donation to Sandy victims, Brees commented, “Obviously, we know the type of devastation that a hurricane like that can cause. Obviously, being here six months after Hurricane Katrina and the length of time it’s taken to get things back here and then also to watch Hurricane Gustav come through here and Hurricane Isaac, we can only imagine the devastation and the way that it’s changed people’s lives up there. I know they have a long road ahead of them. Certainly they can use all the help they can get. It’s something we felt compelled to do as a foundation.”  Way to go Drew!
